My favorite part about shooting family portraiture is the many incredible families I get to work with. In most cases, I get to spend an hour or so with some people I have just met, creating images in an attempt to capture the spirit and energy in which they embody. I have been very lucky with all the families I have had the honor of photographing so far, as I have yet to meet one that has made my job hard. That continues to be the case after an afternoon with the Petersons.
We met at Chateau St Jean in Kenwood, and I could quickly tell by their relaxed nature and sense of humor that it was going to be a fun afternoon. They are from the east bay area, but were in Sonoma County for their nieces high school graduation, and took advantage of the family being together to get some pictures. I was a little worried about finding decent light, as we met in the early afternoon. Chateau St Jean turned out to be a perfect location for this time of day with its unique architecture and shady midway. A few of the resulting images are below.
It was a fun experience meeting the Peterson family, and I appreciate having the opportunity to photograph them. And if you have never visited Chateau St Jean winery and you have a free afternoon with wine on your mind, I recommend a visit. www.chateaustjean.com
