Each year when fall arrives, it brings with it an increased interest in family portraits. The summer vacations have been taken, the holidays are fast approaching and Sonoma County is showing its most expressive colors - it makes perfect sense. I have the privilege of hearing from several families who regularly contact me around this time of year for pictures. The Russell family is one of them.
Its been over 6 years that I have been photographing this amazing family. I first met Trevor and Kelly when I photographed their wedding reception at a winery off Dry Creek Rd in Healdsburg, and since have had the honor of watching their family grow, documenting both their children when they were a handful of days old, as well as a couple of birthday celebrations. This year we went to Sova Gardens in Sebastopol for our location portrait session. I have shot a few weddings at Sova Gardens, and love the variety of settings available at one venue. Everything from manicured lawn and gardens to old barns, a dirt road and a water wheel. All that and the beautiful west Sonoma County hills off in the distance.
We walked around the property for over an hour finding good spots for more pictures. The late afternoon sun was low in the sky and provided great light. As we were wrapping the session up, the kids found a sunny spot on the lawn and we got some very nice images of them interacting playfully. The shoot isn't over until its over, and sometimes thats not until the memory card is full :-).
