Oh, how the holiday spirit can elude me. Its not that I dislike the holidays. It is quite the opposite - I love Christmas. It's all the days leading up to it that can get the better of me. Deadlines, finances, and the hyper active world of retail sales that I knowingly dive head first into can turn the weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas into a stressful blur. Fortunately, this time of year is also full of examples of what the holidays should be about - family, friends and gratitude for this amazing world of ours. My experience photographing the Cahill family embodied this latter holiday perspective. The love and camaraderie between this group was a pleasure to witness and work with, as was the playful spirit of the children.
The shoot was scheduled for the day before Thanksgiving at their property near Kenwood. I was excited and inspired by the beautiful landscape, and the amazing light filtering through the oak trees. We headed down a trail near the house that led out into the oak filled woods. There was no shortage of locations to shoot. Every direction had amazing landscape and perfect light. Some of the images are below.
Thank you Cahill Family - not only for thinking of me for your family portraits, but for your embodiment of holiday family love. That holiday spirit was a little less elusive this year.
